Ozee's Old Truck

This vintage truck painting is due to the kindness of "Ozee" who has allowed me to use his wonderful photograph.

This painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. Canson cold-pressed watercolor paper.  I used Indian Red as the primary color in the truck and I dulled down the greens by using sap green  and cerulean blue.  I introduced a lot of muted colors into the house - Payne's grey, cerulean blue, Indian red, and a little cobalt blue.

My class knows that I always have to throw in a vintage truck every now and then - so this will be a lesson for my class.

At Rest On Wrestle Creek

My friend and art student, Bridget Weller, knows that I love to paint old trucks, so she brought me this picture of an old International Dump Truck, which is "resting" on her farm on Wrestle Creek Road.  I also plan to use this painting as a lesson in the watercolor class so she will also paint her truck.  Thanks, Bridget!

The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on Canson 140 lb. cold-pressed watercolor paper with QoR watercolors from Golden paints.

Tim's Truck

This painting was designed as a lesson in composition using elements from separate photos and combining them into a  unified composition.  The truck is from a picture my brother took at a winery in the Napa Valley (it wasn't blue - it was rusty!)  The building is from a photo my friend Patricia took in the country outside of Wapakoneta, Ohio.  The colors/atmosphere of the painting come from another picture I saw on the internet.  I liked the yellows and violets in the sky contrasted with the blue truck and the purples in the building, combined with the bright greens intensified by the setting sun.  I want my painting students to see how different elements can successfully be used in one painting.

The painting is 9" x 12" and is painted on 140 lb. Acquarello cold-pressed watercolor paper with mostly Holbein watercolors..

The Graveyard: Final version

I think that I have finally finished this painting - I signed it...a good sign!
This painting is just short of a full sheet of watercolor paper 22" x 29" - it is painted on 140 lb. Acquerello cold-pressed watercolor paper - this painting is watermedia because it was poured with acrylic ink and finished with transparent watercolor with touches of acrylic ink.  I think it calls for a black frame with a narrow white mat.
The idea of this painting is from a photograph by photographer Carla Parris, with her permission, of course.  Thank you Carla!
